Pending the fulfillment of immediate needs, we focus on strictly material matters, and pushed to the periphery we move away from our center. We have no idea why things happen or what to do about it. Repetitive situations without seeing the cause or how to deal with them if we do not awaken the desire for a meaningful life that trascend mere subsistence. If we delve into spiritual studies, the answers come slowly, only in a very small proportion. Knowing the areas to work on is a tiny part, and listening or understanding what connect us with our specific work does not mean a change in the short term. To retain knowledge and be able to transform what is needed, we must involve the heart. The heart of the wise men of antiquity was the size of a large living room. The capacity of the following generations was the size of a room, and currently it is as large as a needle. Over time, our heart has degraded. In the past, when you spoke someone endowed with wisdom, if you told them that they had a problem, for exemple anger, because they had a large heart and the capacity to retain this knowledge, they could change in a moment. Today we can insist many times on a topic and remain the same. The fact of listening to the same arguments countless times does not guarantee the necessary change to made. The capacity to retain knowledge and change is very small. Constant study and practice must persist until we go deep when we acquire true understanding and maturity which may require decades and decades of insistence. Every time we hear, that understand, we only retain a small fraction of it to change. For the purpose of changing the heart is small, and the practice and reminder must be constant. Living with benefit and purpose is a permanent commitment that encompasses all areas at all times.
